We like to think we can keep our carpets clean on our own, thank you very much. We just need to vacuum every month or so and blot when there’s a stain… right?
Wrong. What you’re likely forgetting (or, if you’re like us, what you never knew) is that almost all carpet companies require you to professionally steam clean your carpet every 12 to 24 months, to keep your warranty valid.
Carpet Cleaning For Hire
In other words, vacuuming is not enough. Neither is steaming carpets yourself. Professional steaming is, like it or not, legally the only way to protect your carpet in most cases. And it’s also a way to protect your health.
“Indoor air quality can be eight to ten times worse than outdoor air quality, if you don’t clean your flooring, clean your drapes and let air inside regularly,” says interior designer Michael von Backstrom, who specializes in allergy-free housekeeping.

When millions of Australians suffer from indoor allergies, air quality is a huge issue.
and the other experts we spoke with — says that to keep the air in your home clean, it’s important to follow a few carpet-cleaning rules. Namely:
Call professionals to steam your carpet, more often than you think you should.

Many carpet companies won’t honour your warranty unless you hire professional cleaners
every 12 to 18 months, says his wife, a director at the quick carpet Cleaning. In some cases the requirement may be 24 months — check your carpet’s warranty for specifics.
Mike, meanwhile, recommends even more frequent steam cleanings in the interest of a dust-free home: she says to call in professional steamers every six months, and every four to six WEEKS if you have a pet. (Keep in mind this applies to carpets, not area rugs).
Regardless of how often you choose to use them, our experts agree that professional steam cleaners are hands-down necessary — you shouldn’t attempt to steam carpets yourself.
Carpet cleaning machine
Only steam can effectively lift dust from deep within your carpet, Mike says —
if left there, it will wear down and rip the carpet’s fibers. But only professional machines can truly zap all the steam’s moisture from the carpet when you’re done cleaning. The results of trying to do it yourself can be sickening.
“I’ve been on job sites where you pull up the carpet and see a mold patch,” Mike says. When you steam clean yourself, “you turn your house into an incubator for mold growth,” Mike adds.
Between steams, vacuum carpets at least weekly (or much more often with pets).
Of course, vacuuming remains the easiest way to keep carpets and area rugs clean between steams — our experts recommend vacuuming once per week, to keep those abrasive dust particles out of carpet fibers. Ramp up the frequency in high-traffic areas or if you have pets — these spots might need daily vacuuming depending on how much debris you notice, according to Quick Carpet Cleaning Training Manager Odette
And take area rugs out for spring and fall cleaning sessions.
Area rugs vary in their care instructions, so check yours for its ideal cleaning schedule.
Generally, Mike says, you should vacuum rugs with the same frequency as carpets, then deep-clean them every six months with a good old-fashioned broom-beating.
Take rugs outside, shake them out, beat them with an actual broom (ideally while wearing a mask to protect your face), and let them air outside for a day.
Many area rugs can also be steam cleaned — if yours allows, you might steam it once per year, Mike advises.

Another secret? Vacuum carpets slowly.
“One of the most common errors people make when vacuuming is that they do it too fast,” Mike says. “Vacuuming slowly allows a vacuum cleaner to do its best work by vibrating carpet fibers and containing dust in the vacuum.”
Blot carpet spills immediately — do NOT wait.
Rubbing a stain will spread goo around and can distort the carpet’s pile, or fluffy shape. And waiting to clean a stain lets moisture seep deeper — Forte recommends cleaning spills the instant they happen.
Spray carpet cleaner on a cloth and dab the stain, working from the outside to its center. Rinse with a clean cloth the same way, and then blot dry. To absorb leftover moisture, pile on a stack of paper towels and place a heavy pot or vase on top. Leaving it there overnight will ensure all wetness is fully zapped.
Carpet cleaning services
Pick a carpet that’s not a dust magnet in the first place.
To prevent dust buildup in the first place, choose a low pile, Mike says. This means picking a carpet or area rug with short fibers — high layers of fluff or shag will trap more dust (not to mention mite carcasses… ew).
Mike recommends natural, durable materials like wool instead of synthetic ones like nylon.
Carpet tiles are a stellar alternative to wall-to-wall carpets, she says — when there’s a spill, you can pull up the tile and clean it on its own, and you can remove them completely when you’re ready for a scene change back to hardwood floors.
…and if you keep it clean, you can keep it forever! (Well, almost.)

“You can keep a rug for a lifetime, if you keep it clean,”
Mike says. Carpet lifespans, however, range with quality — some well-made varieties are made to last up to 15 years if kept dust-free, she adds.
…It’s just a little more motivation to summon the steam machine.
So how does Mike from quick carpet cleaners go about cleaning carpets, and what areas does he serve?
So to start off, Quick carpet cleaners Gold Coast
now has the most positive reviews on the Gold Coast, and these includes suburbs of the Gold Coast like Helen’s Vale, Hope Island, Runaway Bay, Coomera, Upper Coomera, Jacob’s well, Ormeau and other areas to the north of the Gold Coast
Mike attributes his positive carpet cleaning reviews mostly on his sorrow and scientific approach, and with unique knowledge built up during the last 10 years of trying to be the very best at getting the results that make his clients come back for more
So firstly, when he gets a call or an incoming request for a carpet cleaning quote, the first thing is for him to assess the carpet cleaning job.
Carpet cleaning vacuum
So, going through all the different options that may exist including whether he needs to use acidic or alkaline carpet cleaning fluid, whether these be pet stains or wine stains or odours or whatever else the conditions are that he is about to meet, he provides an approximate quote which the client can accept or not.
However, this quote is still subject to a site approval just in case there are some aspects of the carpet cleaning job he may not have taken into account.
When he visits the site, and the carpet cleaning job client accepts the proposal, he starts immediately by rolling out the vacuum cleaning pipes and water supply pipes from his professional steam extraction carpet cleaning machines.
He has chosen his carpet cleaning machines with great care,
as this makes all the difference. Not only does he have the most technologically advanced carpet cleaning machines that use extraction and agitation for a once over carpet cleaning process, but he also rents out fans and portable carpet cleaning machines to clients.
The fans are especially helpful when clients have a carpet water damage situation.
Carpet Water damage remediation is one of Mike’s specialties,
and therefore having these machines which can dry the carpets to a crisp new condition overnight is essential.
If these carpets are dried after the carpet cleaning job, it can lead to the growth of mould and the destruction of the carpet underlay or fibres.
Mike then proceeds to spray the carpets with a solution that helps to dissolve and remove grease and other stains that need a solvent in order to break down.
He has perfected a method of agitation by using his sneakers and a spray, and he uses the knobs on the sneakers to do the agitation
The pre-spray of the carpet has to be in accordance with the properties of the carpet, and depending whether it is a polymer or nylon or woollen fabric, one has to use different acid or alkaline pre-spray carpet solutions
After waiting a while for the carpet cleaning pre-spray to do its job, he then connects the carpet extraction cleaner.
I have to mention that prior to the pre-spray solution on the carpets, the carpet is first vacuumed with a dual brush and high suction extraction vacuum cleaner in order to remove any dust and dirt particles that are not stuck or worked into the car the carpet fibre.
Then there carpet vacuum cleaning extraction cleaning begins,
and immediately the contrast between the old dirty carpet and how the new carpet is instantly visible.
Once the carpet has gone through sorrow vacuum extraction and agitation, Mike then pays more attention to existing stains that have not fully disappeared.
As soon as he has done providing the most sorrow carpet cleaning job on the Gold Coast, he calls the client to see if they are happy and in most cases they are ecstatic.
Most clients love the fact that they now have carpets that are completely sanitary, and because Mike does not use toxic carpet cleaning fluids, they can know that there toddlers or pets are safe to even eat off the carpet without risk
Normally Mike gets positive reviews directly from the client because of the thoroughness of the carpet cleaning job.
Many are even willing to provide video testimonials and referrals
The next thing we probably have to talk about is the carpet cleaning solution that you can depend on in order to clean your carpets properly.
Even though this is a DIY or home made recipe, it is one of the effective method found thus far for carpet cleaning whether it be residential or commercial
It is also great for boat carpet cleaning and upholstery cleaning, and you can use it safely on all your fabrics as the ingredients are completely natural and non-toxic
After spot-treating and vacuuming up the residue, it’s time to freshen up your carpets with an all-over cleaner. Again, this is simple: vinegar is the only (yes, only!) ingredient besides water.
You may want to check out your local big box store for an economy size jug of vinegar since you will be using a fair amount of it. Our local Costco carries a 1.32 gallon jug of white vinegar for under four dollars. Can’t beat the price!
I have the BISSELL Pro-Cleaner steam cleaner and love it. It works perfectly for area rugs, the stairs, and hallways, as well as tackling a room or even the whole house. If you need to get your whole home done in one day, professional carpet cleaning is always an option, but I love this cleaner and method to fluff up and deodorize our carpets.
The beauty of vinegar is that it leaves no residue behind and brightens and removes light staining or discoloration like a champ. Unfortunately, a lot of commercial cleaners leave a tacky or sticky residue on carpet fibers that attract more dirt and dust and make all your hard work pointless.
Mix equal parts hot water and vinegar and pour in your carpet cleaner’s reservoir tank. Clean your carpets as per your cleaner’s instructions.
Yes, vinegar might leave a temporary pickle smell in your home but it dissipates and disappears as your carpets dry. I can’t take credit for this concoction – it was my professional carpet cleaner that let me in on this little-known secret concoction.
It doesn’t get much easier to clean your carpets than that! Two household ingredients are all it takes to freshen, brighten and clean your carpets.
